The use of sodium butyrate (Adimix Butyrate C) in layer nutrition
From research in human and animal nutrition, it is well established that the intestinal epithelial cells utilize butyrate as a primary energy source. Therefore it can be hypothesized that butyric acid enhances nutrient absorption, and hence may lead to improved technical performance in layer hens.
Especially in older layers (decreasing laying performance, bone demineralization), improved absorption of calcium and phosphorus may be beneficial. In this study, the effect of the inclusion of butyric acid on lay performance at the end of the lay cycle was evaluated.
