INVE Aquaculture launches new feeding strategy
From September onwards INVE Aquaculture, world leader in larval fish nutrition, will be launching a completely new feeding strategy for the Mediterranean and North European fish hatcheries. After more than 5 years of research and work in its Italian testing Center Maricoltura di Rosignano Solvay, INVE Aquaculture is ready to present a new enrichment and feeding line to the European farmers. Key words of the new line are quality, simplicity, reliability and flexibility, with particular attention to the customers’ specific conditions. “The last five years we have witnessed a complete revolution in the production parameters and professional behaviour of our customers”, says Pepino Candreva, Product Manager of INVE Aquaculture. “From big aquatic labs constantly looking to solve basic production problems, most of the European hatcheries have evolved into well-structured industries looking more and more to profit, standardisation and quality of the process. At the same time our position in the market - often as unique supplier - has changed, and many others players have offered their services and products to the explosively growing and improving market of Mediterranean Bass and Bream hatcheries. Within this changing environment, we decided 5 years ago to start a whole new program instead of merely developing or improving one single product. The farmers’ requests were very clear: simplification of the process and a full understanding of the products. All this keeping in mind predictable results and the best possible quality at minimal cost, demands that are also made by the on-growing farms to the hatcheries. We understood we had to change our approach and vision, offering to the customers a new product line that was above all flexible in use, adaptable to all farming conditions, and effective in performance in order to realistically cover the demand for quality. Last year, following these new parameters, we launched our first impressive product Sanolife® ALG, a partial algaesubstitutionaiming to gradually eliminate the use of live algae and at the same time condition water quality and stabilise the larval rearing environment. The first product, released last year was a “simple” partial replacement and is already used by many Mediterranean hatcheries, helping them during production when algae request is excessive. After one year of intensive use by the industry, the next step will be a total green water substitution to finally replace algae with an easy, ready-to-use product. For the coming season, we are ready to present a new Selco® line of Artemia and rotifer culture & enrichment products, based on the very latest developments in larval rearing knowledge and resulting from experiments with original and reliable production techniques. First products here are Selco® S.parkle and Selco® S.presso. S.parkle will be used in rotifer culture as energizer for a consistent, performant and – as the name suggests – sparkling clean rotifer production. The product is formulated with high quality protected components and purified ingredients following a strict quality control protocol. S.parkle is suitable for very short and productive cycles in any condition, and allows rotifer generations to be re-inoculated up to 50 consecutive runs! S.presso is a liquid enrichment product for rotifers and Artemia, developed with the finest raw materials and our most advanced knowledge in larval nutrition. S.presso is made with a special technique of suspension/emulsion, making it possible to upload many beneficial ingredients and to easily reach a DHA/EPA ratio above 7. It is a very flexible tool that hatcheries can use in multiple enrichment strategies, depending on their specific conditions and choice. Soon we will also launch an even more spectacular, off-the-shelf product for mass rotifer production in continuous systems, Selco® S.tream, which is based on a simple but innovative technology. A new enrichment product called Selco® S.pirit will also join the list. This product is based on the suspension/emulsion technique but with extra high levels of HUFA and high DHA/EPA. It has been especially developed for the Northern countries species but our latest tests also show some very promising results for the Mediterranean area”, says P. Candreva. “And it does not stop here: we also re-engineered and simplified our larval and postlarvaldry diets range. With new sizes, homogeneous distribution and a perfect compatibility between three different formulation blocks, we will be offering a completely new feed line called O.range, representing one top nutritional strategy with reasonable costs and reliable outputs”, concludes Candreva.
