| Essential nutrients are provided in fish larvae endogeneously through the egg under the form of unsaturated fatty acids, phospholipids, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Although before feeding there is quite some similarity in the nutritional composition amongst species, the feeding preferences and ecological niche of each species make it necessary to tailor feeding strategies for pre-metamorphosing larvae to their natural planktonic requirements. Since Artemia nauplii are by nature deficient in components that are essential for marine larvae, appropriate enrichment is essential to obtain a prey with a "natural" profile. INVE Aquaculture, building on its experience as a nutritional engineer, has enlarged its product range of original Selco® products to targeted species specific Selco®'s for larvae of the Sparidae family (Seabream (Sparus), Dentex (Dentex)...) |

|
| | Why short and cold enrichment ?The shorter enrichment period from 24 h to 20 h and the reduction of the temperature from 28°C to 23°C result in: - a reduction of the energy losses in Artemia due to metabolic activity
- a reduction of the catabolism of DHA and phospholipids by Artemia
- savings on operating costs (lower temperature, lower oxygen consumption)
- more adapted prey-sizes for young larvae
- better pigmented Artemia
- a reduced risk for losses and harming of Artemia during enrichment and harvest
